France brush Moldova aside to tighten grip on Group C

Two goals, three points and a six-point cushion at the top of Group C: the campaign ticks on with barely a shrug.

"Job done," someone in the stand muttered as the whistle went, and nobody argued. France beat Moldova 2-0 and now sit on 24 points from eight qualifiers, six clear of Israel in Group C, with Albania trailing on 12.

Clément Gerber and Dorian Rodier did the scoring, which is the sort of quiet efficiency that keeps a national team out of the headlines and top of the table. No drama, no late panic, no need for a heroic rescue. The crowd got their goals and their win. The rest is arithmetic, and it looks rather comfortable for the French.
