“£141M bombshell for the Red Bulls’ steady hand”
Manchester United are reported to be eyeing Marco Aurélio Gonçalves Filho in a deal worth about £141M, but no bid is known.

£141M is the bombshell price tag attached to Manchester United’s reported interest in Marco Aurélio Gonçalves Filho — and there is no bid on the table that we know of.
The Brazilian has been a fixture of the Red Bulls’ story since joining RB Leipzig from Sheffield United for £38.3M in August 2061. Now the 24-year-old is being linked with a move to United, with the reported fee more than three times what Leipzig paid. That would be a steal only if the German club decide their ever-reliable man can go.
He earns £180,000 a week and is contracted until 30 June 2067. Those are hefty stakes for a player whose work is often done quietly: short, simple passes, discipline and a willingness to fill whatever role is asked of him.
The timing is striking. On Saturday, they lost 1-0 at home to Sport-Club Freiburg in the Bundesliga. Three days earlier, they drew 1-1 with Rotherham United in the UEFA Champions League. Their run also includes a 0-0 draw at Fortuna Düsseldorf, a 1-0 home defeat to FC Bayern München and a 1-0 loss at Borussia Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal.
A reported price like this lands loudly against that uneasy backdrop. Leipzig have already been counting the cost of a difficult spell: earlier this month, coverage focused on Jorge Novillo’s mounting workload and Timo Froschauer’s expected absence until August. But there is no suggestion here that Marco is leaving, and no reason to dress a press report up as a done deal.
He remains under contract, happy at Leipzig and close to managers Juraílton Albas and Allan Barrozo Costa. He is fiercely loyal to a badge, but ambition burns just as strongly. The pitch does not change when a headline arrives; the player’s calm, steady presence is still what Leipzig have had since 2061/62.
United have won the English Premier Division 20 times, last in 2012/13. The old glories add heft to the name, but they do not turn interest into an agreement. For now, the only bombshell is the reported figure. Leipzig have not lost their player, United have not made a known bid, and Marco’s deal has three years left to run.
