Lyon Still Lead, but Nantes Keep the Crown in Sight

Sunday’s Ligue 1 Uber Eats round brought a four-goal Paris surge, Ali Dali’s hat-trick and a sharp warning to the leaders: FC Nantes are now only a point behind Olympique Lyonnais.

How much room does a one-point lead buy a champion? Not much, as Olympique Lyonnais will have noticed while FC Nantes made their case on Sunday and the rest of the top five jostled behind them. The latest round of Ligue 1 Uber Eats offered a Paris Saint-Germain revival, an Olympique de Marseille goal-fest and a welcome climb for RC Lens; Lyon, meanwhile, remained first without kicking a ball in the featured games.

Paris find a gear

Paris Saint-Germain beat FC Lorient 4-2 on Sunday, but the scoreline does not quite capture the evening’s peculiar shape. Lorient had only 33 per cent possession, yet matched Paris for shots and put seven on target. They led through Nenad Grgačević’s high finish just under the bar, scored in first-half added time, and made the visitors earn their authority rather than merely admire it.

Michele Guida headed Paris level from close range six minutes after the restart. Clément Gerber put them ahead on 66 minutes; Ousmane Miguelgorry then struck high towards a post from outside the box, before substitute Albin Forsell added another with a low-key flourish of the boot, placing his shot at mid height near a post. Guilherme Mulholand’s penalty in added time made the final score less comfortable-looking than Paris’s middle stretch had suggested.

Miguelgorry was the game’s outstanding figure: one goal, two assists and five key passes, with his performance rated 9.7. The Frenchman, usually unruffled, offered the sort of day that makes a complicated afternoon look straightforward. Paris completed far more passes, but Lorient’s threat was real, and their goalkeeper had work enough to keep the contest alive. The result lifts Paris to fifth, level on 44 points with Marseille; Lorient are 13th.

Marseille make their point

Marseille, on the same 44 points but fourth by the table, had rather less interest in suspense. They beat Dijon FCO 5-1, with Ali Dali scoring three and Alex Mahe twice. Dali opened the scoring with a low, hard drive from close range, high near a post. Mahe’s early second-half drive from close range stayed along the ground; Dali then headed in from close range before Mahe put a low shot near a post.

Dijon’s Christopher Vial pulled one back from the penalty spot, a minor interruption to a home performance that had already settled the argument. Dali completed his hat-trick in added time. His presence across the front line has always made neat job descriptions look rather optimistic; on Sunday he simply made Dijon’s afternoon longer. He was the standout, with Mahe’s two goals making a fine supporting case. Dijon remain 18th, deep in the relegation zone, and the table offers no gentle wording for that.

Nantes refuse to blink

FC Nantes beat Stade Malherbe Caen 3-0 and are now second, one point behind Lyon on 56. Léopold Pageaut headed in from close range after four minutes. Kristof Vanneste followed with a shot from outside the box that travelled along the ground through the middle. Júlio César added the third from close range in the second half. Aaron Mullan was judged the game’s leading performer, as Nantes did what a title challenger should: make a difficult afternoon look like a routine appointment.

The pressure is not abstract. Lyon lead on 57 points after 25 games; Nantes have 56 from the same number. Lyon reclaimed first place on Saturday after beating Bordeaux 4-0, as we reported yesterday. A day later, Nantes made sure that position still needs defending. The champions have won Ligue 1 Uber Eats as recently as last season, but old medals do not add to this season’s total.

Strasbourg’s escape act, Lens’s late nerve

At Lille, RC Strasbourg Alsace turned an early deficit into a 2-1 win. Javi Cano’s low, hard drive from outside the box put Lille ahead on five minutes. Asier Ramos levelled four minutes later with a close-range drive along the ground, then Tamo Tokéné struck high under the bar, near a post, just after half-time. Strasbourg are still 17th, in the relegation zone, but three points matter rather more when the table is that unforgiving. Lille sit 12th.

RC Lens climbed from 15th to 11th after beating FC Girondins de Bordeaux 2-1. Héctor Ruz scored from close range in the first half; Ville Ahlholm headed Bordeaux level late, only for Ruz to score again in added time, low near a post. He was the difference in a match that threatened to leave Lens with a point and gave them three instead. Bordeaux are 14th.

Nîmes Olympique beat OGC Nice 2-0, scoring through Pablo and Sil Harmsma inside nine minutes. Nice remain third on 46 points, two clear of Marseille and Paris. ESTAC Troyes also beat Stade Rennais FC 2-0; Troyes are 16th, while Strasbourg and Dijon occupy the bottom two places. The leaders’ business resumes with Lyon still first, Nantes close enough to make the view uncomfortable, and no room for anyone to mistake a Sunday win for a settled season.
