The paperwork lands, and a familiar face is back in Cluj colours. Jorge Ramos has joined FC CFR 1907 Cluj from Valencia on loan, with the deal confirmed on 17 August for £1.4m. That is a bombshell fee for a player whose name carries real weight.

Ramos, 33, returns after playing for Cluj from 2049/50 to 2063/64. He made 602 appearances there, scored 40 goals and won three trophies before moving to Valencia. Now he is back on loan, bringing experience and a powerful link to the club’s recent past.

The move is a steal in significance, too. Ramos has played 705 club games across three clubs and scored 44 goals. For Spain, he has earned 98 caps and scored four times. Valencia have loaned out a Spanish international with a vast body of experience; Cluj have brought back a player who knows the shirt and the demands that come with it.

Cluj’s domestic story gives the reunion extra bite. Their run of eight Romanian First League titles ended after 2060/61, and they finished runners-up in the Romanian Cup in 2062/63, ending a three-title streak. Yet their Romanian Super Cup run is still alive: they won the latest, in 2063/64, for a seventh in a row. Ramos returns to a club still collecting silverware, but with league and cup runs that have already been interrupted.

The timing also adds intrigue. Cluj’s latest Romanian First League headlines included Cosmin Lupu’s hat-trick against Clubul Sportiv al Armatei Steaua on 13 August. Now Ramos joins the squad, offering another seasoned presence as the new campaign takes shape. No grand promises are needed. His return alone gives Cluj supporters a reason to lean closer.

There is a Valencia thread running the other way, too. Sebastian Avram, who played for Cluj between 2048/49 and 2054/55, now represents Valencia. Diogo Antunes also moved from Cluj to Valencia, having played for the Romanian club in 2062/63 and 2063/64. Ramos’s loan gives that familiar exchange a fresh twist: one former Cluj man heads back, while old connections remain at his Spanish club.

For Cluj, this is more than a short-term addition. It is a reunion with a proven figure, a £1.4m gamble on a player whose history at the club is already substantial, and a fresh jolt of ambition after recent title runs came to an end. Ramos is back. The welcome should be loud.
