Atlanta’s £1.2m Midfield Coup
Atlanta United FC have completed a £1.2m move for Norwegian central midfielder Halvor Eikeland from MVV Maastricht.

£1.2m is the price of Atlanta United FC’s latest midfield addition, with Halvor Eikeland completing his move from MVV Maastricht on Sunday 2 March. The Norwegian central midfielder, 24, has signed up for the glamour of Major League Soccer—and a fresh chance to make his mark.
Eikeland arrives in a busy position. Phillip Ikechukwu and Jerry Spies have each started there five times since 1 July 2063, while Naana Kompagnie and Jakub Szymański have two starts apiece. Two players occupied the role in Atlanta’s most recent game, so the newcomer joins a genuine contest rather than walking into a vacant throne.
Eikeland made 45 appearances and scored two goals for MVV Maastricht. Before that came stints with IK Start and Molde FK. Across his club career, he has made 105 appearances and scored eight goals; he has also represented Norway once.
There is a familiar face to greet him in the Atlanta dressing room. Rocco Naujoks played for MVV Maastricht from 2060/61 to 2063/64, making 83 appearances and winning a trophy there. A little old-club knowledge could make Eikeland’s welcome feel less like a leap into the unknown.
The move also reunites Eikeland with manager Elliot Embleton, to whom he is close. He arrives in good spirits, with the sort of polished, headline-ready introduction Atlanta will hope turns into substance on the pitch. For MVV, a regular presence has moved on; for Atlanta, the midfield auditions have a new name in the programme.
