“We are just taking it game by game” — Frosinone, sixth, defy a table that says twentieth

Twelve games in, Frosinone sit sixth in Serie A on 20 points, though their standing points to a place at the bottom — and Matteo Colli's side are unbeaten in five.

“We are just taking it game by game,” Matteo Colli said, and the figures suggest his players mean it. Sixth place, 20 points from 12 matches, one defeat nowhere in the recent run: a form line of WDWDD that reads less like a promoted side's survival scrap and more like a quiet push for Europe.

The gap that matters is the other one. Their standing says twentieth — the bottom of the division — and sixth is ten places above it, closer to the top four than to the drop. Colli, whose tenure began in June 2062, has overseen a hat-trick from Franco Epifani against Roma, a 4-4 with Napoli in which Tatsuya Ishii scored twice, and a season that keeps refusing the script. It is early. But clubs with two major titles do not usually spend November looking up.
