Bagheria Breaks the Ice
Mattia Bagheria's first goal of the season was also his 34th for Avellino, taking him past Nicolás Coppola in the club's all-time list.

Thirty-three had stood at the top of Avellino's scoring chart long enough to look permanent. Nicolás Coppola's name was the one every forward since had been measured against, and the gap to the rest was wide enough to make a challenger seem theoretical. On 10 November, in the 2063/64 Serie B season, Mattia Bagheria closed it.
His first goal of the campaign was his 34th for the club, one more than Coppola's 33, and it settles the question of who stands alone at the summit.
The shape of the numbers is what makes them worth a second look. Bagheria arrived at Avellino on 1 July 2055 from Como 1907, where he had scored 15 times in 152 matches. Since then: 296 appearances in Avellino colours and those 34 goals. Across his career he has played 448 club games for two clubs and scored 49 goals. Only 15 of them came before he moved.
That is the arithmetic that makes this an Avellino story before it is anything else. A modest club with a local following has watched one of its own grind past a mark that once looked safe, and the supporters who have counted his appearances will feel the weight of it more keenly than any neutral. 'It is the shirt I wanted to score in,' Bagheria said afterwards, and nobody in the ground needed the sentiment explained.
A first goal of the season arriving on the day a club record falls is the kind of timing a spreadsheet cannot predict and a supporter never forgets.
He is 29, with 296 Avellino games behind him and a season still in front of him. The tally stands at 34. The next name on the list is now the one doing the chasing.
