One goalkeeper, 100 days: what does Schalke do now?
Erick Fernandez has torn knee ligaments and will be out for around 100 days, leaving FC Schalke 04 without their first-choice goalkeeper deep into the winter.

One hundred days. That is the estimate the medical staff have given for Erick Fernandez, and it is a long time to be without the man in goal. The American tore knee ligaments on 28 October, and the club expects him back around 5 February, though a date like that is a hope as much as a forecast.
For now the Bundesliga 2 campaign goes on without him. He has not played this season, yet his absence still costs Schalke a goalkeeper of 99 games for the club and 35 caps for his country, and the fixtures ahead will test whoever steps in. Supporters will count the weeks.
