What does a hat-trick look like when the whole night seems to open before you? For Carlos Gutiérrez, it was five shots on target, three goals and a perfect match rating as Leganés overwhelmed Ferencvárosi Torna Club 7-0 on 16 August.

The Spanish forward was at the heart of a performance that turned a European evening into a Leganés procession. His three strikes supplied the sharpest edge, while two key passes showed he was not merely waiting for the final touch. The hosts had their moments—12 shots and one effort against the woodwork—but Leganés brought the greater weight: 20 attempts, 10 on target and three balls rattling the frame.

This was no narrow escape dressed up as a feast. Leganés held 56 per cent possession and completed 486 of 549 passes; Ferencvárosi Torna Club managed 383 of 448. The Spanish side’s six goals beyond Gutiérrez’s contribution to the headline told of a team in full, but his own finishing gave the night its unmistakable rhythm: three clean strikes, like a flamenco heel striking the boards with the room leaning in.

Sergio Roca, named player of the match, also earned a 10.0 rating with two goals and four key passes. That parallel brilliance makes Gutiérrez’s display all the more striking: the spotlight was shared, yet the hat-trick remained his. Jose Manuel Soler supplied three assists before being replaced in the 81st minute, and Raúl Agirre added another.

For Leganés, a club from the Community of Madrid, this was a result to carry with pride. Gutiérrez’s own route has been measured in steady service: 252 club games and 127 goals across two clubs before this season’s flourish. Here, he gave the old craft of scoring a vivid new stanza—and left Ferencvárosi Torna Club with no answer to his refrain.
