Chelsea’s appetite for talent shows no sign of easing, and English football’s reigning dynasty have made another striking move. On 11 August, the Blues signed 18-year-old Christian Becker from VfB Stuttgart II U23 for £25.6m.
Becker arrives with 34 goals in 70 club games, including 34 goals in 68 appearances for his former side. He is now with Chelsea U18, a prodigious haul that gives this expensive gamble genuine bite. For Stuttgart, an old boy has gone; for Chelsea, the price is a loud declaration of belief.
