Achi Answers Getafe's Call, and Nantes Feels the Pull Again
Mohamed Achi, the Frenchman who spent fifteen seasons scrapping through 476 club games, has been named Coach at Getafe — and the Canaris faithful know exactly what he leaves behind.

Getafe needed a coach who knows what a dressing room sounds like when the walls are closing in. They got one. Mohamed Achi, French, sixty-one, appointed Coach at the Spanish club on 13 July — a man who played the game from 2022/23 to 2036/37 across nine clubs, 476 appearances, 36 goals, and not one of them handed to him.
That is the shape of this appointment. Getafe, a respected name in continental football with four major titles, did not go looking for a philosopher. They went looking for someone who has stood in the tunnel with the noise coming down and known how to send a team out into it. Achi's playing years were spent mostly at FC Nantes, and Nantes is a club that teaches you the weather: 40 major titles, a European final lost on penalties in 2062, and a support that expects. You do not survive fifteen seasons in that shirt without learning to carry weight.
He has not been parachuted in from nowhere. Lately he has been coaching at Hsin Feng Senior High School U19 — teaching teenagers the same things he once did on a Saturday: hold your ground, take the ball on the half-turn, do not blink. Getafe have looked at that and decided it translates.
In Nantes they will read the news with a twist in the stomach. This is the week Eurico Tavares became Les Canaris' all-time top scorer, 227 goals, past Abdelmajid Boutaleb's 221 — a club still writing its own legend. And now one of its old midfield scufflers steps up in Spain, while Getafe have also handed Francisco Javier Bernal the Head of Youth Development job and named Ababacar Mbaye Coach. Three appointments, one message: Getafe want people who have lived the game.
"You learn the trade in the mud, not the brochure," Achi might say. Getafe will find out from the first whistle whether the trade still fits.
