Carnesecchi Swaps Camp Nou for the Gulf in £12.5m Bombshell

Barcelona wave goodbye to Gianluca Carnesecchi as the 33-year-old Italian seals a £12.5m move to Al-Nassr Football Club.

What does a £12.5m goodbye look like when it is waved from Catalonia to the Gulf?

Gianluca Carnesecchi has his answer. The Italian is an Al-Nassr Football Club player, signed from Barcelona for a £12.5m fee, and the switch lands him in a squad with a worldwide following and a trophy cabinet of nine major titles.

At 33, Carnesecchi leaves Spain with 612 club appearances and 16 goals behind him, spread across four clubs, plus 73 caps and no goals for Italy. That is a career measured in miles and matches, and now it takes a turn into the Saudi sun.

Barcelona, a club with 107 major titles and a regular name in the international game, are letting him go. They remain a wealthy, globally supported institution, but the Catalan giants sit ninth midway through the campaign, have changed managers again and are preparing for presidential elections. Saying farewell to a seasoned operator fits the mood of a club in flux.

Al-Nassr, a big name abroad, get a player who has spent a lifetime at the sharp end. They already welcomed Ido Cohen from Barcelona this month, and the two arrivals give them a Catalan flavour to go with their ambition.

Carnesecchi is not arriving to learn. He is arriving to do what he has always done: turn up, put in the shift and leave the crowd talking. For £12.5m, that is a steal.

The fee is modest. The noise around it will not be.

Barcelona move on, their summer of change rolling on. Al-Nassr have their man, and Carnesecchi has a new chapter. Some deals whisper. This one has a bit of a shout about it.
