Lyon Turn Bordeaux Blue as the Title Race Tightens
Olympique Lyonnais put four past Bordeaux on Sunday to reclaim first place, while goals and a late sting reshaped the picture across Ligue 1 Uber Eats.

The ball was already in the net, the roar rolling around the Groupama Stadium, and Laureano Fernández was setting the tone. On Sunday, he drove Olympique Lyonnais ahead against FC Girondins de Bordeaux; seven minutes later Stanley Devoy had doubled it. By the time the afternoon was done, Lyon had won 4-0, and the top of Ligue 1 Uber Eats had changed hands.
Lyon have 54 points from 24 games, one more than FC Nantes, who have played the same number. That is the sharp edge of this title race: one point. Bordeaux, beaten heavily, are 13th.
Lyon 4-0 Bordeaux
Fernández’s low, hard drive from close range found its way high into the net in the 35th minute. Devoy followed with a close-range header, low and near a post. Then the second half was barely under way when Franck Ekwalla rose to head high through the middle in the 47th minute. Julio Barone finished the scoring in the 67th, a close-range shot with his foot at mid-height.
Fernández was the game’s standout performer: a goal, an assist and two key passes, with his dribbling and tackling bringing a busy, bright edge to Lyon’s afternoon. He had worn Bordeaux’s shirt before moving to Lyon, and there was a particular snap to seeing him lead the punishment. Ekwalla, in the side for Aoula Diarra, also scored and assisted. Ştefan Gârlonța was not in the squad.
The crowd of 59,186 saw Lyon turn a close contest into a decisive one. Bordeaux had only three shots, with one on target; Lyon had 18, and made four count. Lyon were clinical, and the home noise swelled with every goal.
Rennes make the early goal count
Stade Rennais FC 3-1 Montpellier Hérault SC
Montpellier struck first through Frédéric Cheze, whose low shot from outside the box came in the third minute. Rennes answered almost at once: Eric Bolzoni scored two minutes later with a close-range shot along the ground and near a post. Ariel Rein put the hosts ahead in the 11th, his shot going high, and Tom Sandoval made it 3-1 in the 27th with a shot through the middle at mid-height.
The first goal belonged to Montpellier; the authority belonged to Rennes. Alexis Roberti was the standout as Rennes moved to sixth, while Montpellier stayed eighth. A sharp opening from the visitors had promised a contest, but Rennes had turned the game around before the half-hour.
Monaco’s clean sheet, Lorient’s blank
AS Monaco 3-0 FC Lorient
Steven Igwe opened the scoring in the 18th with a low, hard drive from outside the box, tucked near a post. Xabi Zoilo headed high from close range six minutes later, and Gruff French added another close-range header at mid-height in the 54th minute. Merouane Mokrani was Monaco’s standout performer as they secured a win without conceding.
Monaco are 10th; Lorient are 12th. Igwe’s strike gave the afternoon its first jolt, and Zoilo’s header soon made Monaco’s lead two. French’s second-half finish put the result beyond reach.
Caen hold on through the late noise
RC Strasbourg Alsace 1-2 Stade Malherbe Caen
Maximilien Lenfant put Caen ahead in the 23rd minute with a shot that went high. Florian Pythie made it two in first-half stoppage time, sending the ball high near a post. Strasbourg waited until the 92nd minute to find a reply: Edmundo scored with a low finish, but the late goal could not rescue a point.
Roger Vall was Caen’s standout performer in a win that leaves the visitors 14th. Strasbourg are 17th, inside the relegation zone. The final minutes had their tension, but Caen had built enough of a cushion to leave with all three points.
Gerber gives Paris the one-goal answer
Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 ESTAC Troyes
For 75 minutes, the scoreboard held. Then Clément Gerber struck a low, hard drive along the ground and near a post. It was enough for PSG, with Gerber also the standout performer. Paris are fifth; Troyes are 16th, just outside the relegation zone, where the bottom two places currently sit.
Nîmes bring Dijon further trouble
Dijon FCO 0-3 Nîmes Olympique
Iván Aguilar headed in from close range, low and near a post, in the 25th minute. Malick Bâ scored through the middle at mid-height after the break, and Ben Gamliel finished high through the middle in the 85th. Mustafa Güneş was Nîmes’s standout performer. Nîmes are ninth; Dijon remain 18th, with 11 points from 24 games and the relegation zone beneath their feet.
The round’s headline belongs to Lyon, but the table has pressure at both ends. Nantes are still breathing down the leaders’ necks, while OGC Nice are third on 46 points. Olympique de Marseille occupy fourth, with Paris Saint-Germain fifth; both have 41 points. Below them, Troyes, Strasbourg and Dijon hold 16th, 17th and 18th respectively. Lyon have the lead again, but it is a slender one—and Sunday’s four-goal roar cannot drown out Nantes just behind.
