250 club goals for Dorian Rodier

The French forward reaches a career milestone in Manchester City colours.

Two hundred and fifty club goals. It is the kind of number that separates the durable from the fleeting, and it has been waiting for Dorian Rodier since the first week of December. Before Manchester City’s match, the Frenchman stood on 249, and every touch carried the weight of a landmark that has taken seventeen seasons and six clubs to reach.

Rodier has never rushed. His 612 club games have produced a goal every 2.45 matches, a patient ratio that has nevertheless delivered 250 goals across spells with Stade Rennais, Luton Town, Norwich City, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City. The milestone came in his 193rd game for City, where he has now scored 76 times since joining on a free transfer in 2058.

It is a total built on longevity rather than explosion. His 131 goals for Rennes came over thirteen seasons, while his loan spells in England added 32 more. At PSG he managed 11 in 38 games, a modest return that did little to slow the accumulation. Now, at 32, he has reached a figure that only the most consistent forwards ever approach.

The crowd knew what was at stake. Every shot drew a sharper intake of breath, every run into the box a ripple of anticipation. When the moment came, it was celebrated with the kind of relief that accompanies a long-awaited landmark. Rodier, as ever, let the numbers do the talking. Two hundred and fifty club goals, more than most will ever manage, and still counting.
