Report

Chelsea extended their winning run to 15 consecutive league matches with a commanding 3–1 victory over Aston Villa. The hosts controlled the match through patient possession, aggressive width and sustained pressure, finishing with 22 shots, 14 corners and 55% of the ball. Villa remained competitive in midfield but struggled to progress beyond Chelsea’s defensive line, producing only five attempts and an expected-goals total of 0.52.

Júnior opened the scoring in the 18th minute, cutting through Villa’s defence before driving a low, powerful finish beyond Nathan Wilkinson. Villa’s problems deepened when Phil Richards suffered a groin injury nine minutes later, and Chelsea took advantage of the disruption. Marcelo Formicola doubled the lead after 34 minutes with another precise low strike, completing a dominant first half in which the home side repeatedly found space around the Villa penalty area.

Any hope of a Villa recovery was effectively ended within a minute of the restart. Howard Parkins collected the ball outside the box and calmly placed his shot into the net from 22 metres, giving Chelsea a three-goal advantage. It was a finish that reflected his growing influence in midfield: composed, intelligent and technically assured. Miguel Ángel Perea pulled one back for Villa in the 57th minute with a powerful close-range effort, but the visitors never seriously threatened a comeback.

Norberto Pico was Chelsea’s outstanding performer, repeatedly advancing from the right, creating four chances and supplying an assist. Chelsea completed 91% of their passes and limited Villa to only two efforts on target, underlining the gap between the teams. The result keeps Chelsea at the top of the Premier Division and reinforces their position as the side everyone else is chasing.
