Levy belongs to Lyon, and the numbers bow to him
Twenty-five years after a first season at Olympique Lyonnais, Jonathan Levy's 409 goals in 674 club games read less like arithmetic than like a long, patient act of devotion.

Jonathan Levy did not merely play for Lyon; he inhabited it. From 2038/39 to 2060/61 he gave the club 638 matches and 394 goals, and a further 34 games and 15 goals at Metz, taking the whole to 409 in 674. Add 165 assists and the picture is of a forward who understood that beauty lies in the pass as much as the finish.
He was no decorative saint. He won, and he made a city believe. "Lyon taught me that elegance without courage is only decoration," he might say, and the stands would agree. The seven straight Ligue 1 crowns from 2054/55 to 2060/61 were the proof, and the French Cup three years running from 2053/54. Two games at Wolfsburg closed the book. The numbers are cold; the memory is not.
