Can Sheffield United halt Rotherham's surge in the derby?

Sheffield United's woeful run meets Rotherham's charge up the table in a derby that could define both seasons.

Sheffield United are staring down the barrel. A run of four straight defeats has left them 13th, and now the enemy from across the city arrives on a wave of momentum. Rotherham sit fifth, unbeaten in four, and have won the last three meetings between these sides. The form book screams an away win, but derbies have a habit of ignoring the script.

The visitors' threat is obvious: Manuel Miranda has been electric, with four goals and an assist in his last four, while Kemal Aydın pulled the strings brilliantly in midweek. United's defence, marshalled by the tired Kieron Palmer, must find a way to contain them. At the other end, Giovane carries the hosts' hopes. The key battle may be Miranda against left-back Héctor Oliver – the winger's dribbling (18) against Oliver's tackling (15) looks a mismatch on paper. Rotherham's expected line-up is unchanged, but several key men are running on fumes. United need a response, and fast.
