Six past Liechtenstein — but what does it actually prove?
A qualifier against Liechtenstein was never going to tell us where this Italy stands, so let us ask the awkward question anyway.

Six goals, none conceded, a night that ran exactly as scripted. Italy did what Italy had to do against Liechtenstein in European Championship qualifying, and the crowd enjoyed every minute of it. But expectation and reality are comfortable bedfellows when the opposition offers so little resistance, and nobody in the stands will pretend otherwise.
So what have we learned? That this side can finish when the door is wide open — we suspected as much. The harder tests, the ones where the door is bolted, are the ones that will define this campaign. Enjoy the six, by all means. Just do not confuse a rout with an answer.
