Köln humble Gladbach as Jurandir runs the derby

Two goals without reply at the RheinEnergieStadion lift Köln clear of the bottom five and leave Gladbach with two shots and none on target.

Two shots. None on target. That is what Borussia Mönchengladbach managed in a derby they never looked like drawing, let alone winning, as 1. FC Köln took it 2-0.

Tomas Ibáñez struck on 27 minutes after Jurandir had already begun pulling the visiting right flank apart; Jurandir then settled it himself in the 91st, finishing a move he had started, on a day of 14 kilometres and seven key passes. Gladbach's Mikel Pérez and Mirko Klante, so reliable together on that flank, were separated at 68 minutes and the shape changed with them. Ariel Martín, who once kept goal across the city, could do nothing about either goal. Köln climb; the neighbours sink further.
