Monaco’s Grand Prix: Four Wins, Top Spot and a Fast Start

AS Monaco lead Ligue 1 Uber Eats after four straight wins, with OGC Nice level on points and Marseille surging into fourth.

Who has grabbed the early pace in Ligue 1 Uber Eats? AS Monaco, with four wins from four and a table-topping 12 points, while OGC Nice keep right on their shoulder and Olympique de Marseille have thundered up to fourth.

Monaco’s latest statement came at LOSC Lille, where a 3-0 win on 1 September brought the leaders’ goal difference to +12. They had also beaten RC Strasbourg Alsace 3-2 on 19 August. This is a sharp reply to the expectations story around the club: Monaco were forecast for eighth, but stand first after four matches. The season began with Merouane Mokrani scoring twice in the 4-0 win over RC Lens; now the team’s clean, relentless start has carried them clear on goal difference.

Nice have matched Monaco’s perfect record and points tally, with a +9 goal difference. Their 1-0 victory over LOSC on 26 August helped lift them from seventh to second. FC Nantes sit third on 10 points, unbeaten after a 0-0 draw with Olympique Lyonnais and a 1-0 win over FC Sochaux-Montbéliard in this cycle. They had already beaten FC Lorient 1-0 on 19 August.

Then there is Marseille. From 13th to fourth in a single cycle, the Olympians have found their feet: three wins from four, nine points and a +5 goal difference. Paris Saint-Germain are fifth, also on nine points, after beating RC Lens 2-1 and RC Strasbourg 1-0. Marseille’s climb is the week’s loudest table move; Monaco’s is the one setting the tempo.

The fall has been just as dramatic. Lille began the cycle at the top and now sit 10th after losing 0-1 to Nice and 0-3 to Monaco. FC Lorient have dropped from fifth to 14th, while Dijon FCO are 16th and still without a win. Rennes rose from 16th to ninth after beating Lens 2-1 and Strasbourg 3-1; ESTAC Troyes climbed from 17th to 11th. Nîmes Olympique, unbeaten, slipped from second to sixth.

At the foot, Strasbourg and Lens have no points after four games, both still searching for their first win. Strasbourg’s 1-3 defeat by Rennes followed their loss to Monaco; Lens have also lost to PSG, Rennes and Lyon, the latest a 0-1 setback on 2 September. Dijon have one point from a draw and three defeats. The early table is already drawing hard lines: four clubs remain unbeaten—Monaco, Nice, Nantes and Nîmes—while those three winless sides are chasing daylight.

Four games are enough to make a noise, not enough to settle a season. But Monaco have the lead, Nice are matching them, and Marseille have made the climb look urgent. Ligue 1’s opening pace is set; the chase is already on.
