Football’s best defenders are not merely those who win the collision, but those who have read the danger before it arrives. In Helge Joppe, Fortuna Düsseldorf have a fifteen-year-old whose scouting appeal lies in that balance.
He closes with intent, tackles firmly and uses his position to make the challenge count; when the ball comes in high, his heading is another dependable answer. The work has so far been with Fortuna Düsseldorf II U23, where he played six times in 2062/63, with no first-team games. The ingredients are persuasive; their next test is the long schooling that turns promise into craft.
