Milan lead a measured week of January business
Ander Sesma’s €10.5 million move from Dinamo Bucureşti was the largest deal in a week defined by targeted rather than theatrical spending.
AC Milan’s €10.5 million move for Ander Sesma from Dinamo Bucureşti was the largest recorded transfer of the week, and it arrived alongside a smaller outward deal: Dan Manresa left Milan for Heerenveen for €3 million.
Elsewhere, Everton paid €6 million to take Yuval Swisa from Hapoel Be’er-Sheva, Sampdoria signed Emili Ciuró from Brianza for €2.4 million and Millwall bought Júlio César from Luton for €1.2 million.
The fees are not extravagant by the standards of Europe’s largest clubs, but January business is often about correcting a specific weakness rather than announcing a new era. Milan’s decision to spend most heavily is the clearest signal. They sit fourth in Serie A and have completed the Champions League league phase with a 1–0 win over St. Gallen. Sesma arrives at a club still competing on both fronts, where adaptation will be measured immediately against consequence.
