Horciu’s brace survives the chaos, if not the lead
Two early goals placed Dragos Horciu at the centre of Köln’s extraordinary 4–4 draw with Nürnberg.

Dragos Horciu’s two goals in six first-half minutes should have given Köln control. Instead, they became the brightest fragments of a 4–4 draw with Nürnberg.
Horciu scored in the sixth and 24th minutes, adding to Tomas Ibáñez’s fourth-minute opener. Maurizio Zanutta later supplied Köln’s fourth. Yet Nürnberg kept returning, turning what began as acceleration into instability.
The match is a useful portrait of the Bundesliga beneath the title race: ambitious, open and resistant to neat conclusions. Horciu’s brace made him one of the week’s leading scorers, but it did not purchase the result his finishing appeared to promise.
There is no need to inflate the personal story beyond the evidence. This was not a career verdict. It was a sharp reminder of the forward’s value in the moment and of football’s refusal to let individual excellence dictate the collective ending.
Köln leave with one point and eight goals shared. Horciu leaves with the more private distinction of having twice recognised space before the game lost all shape.
