A small club from Vienna's tram depots turned over a top-flight side in the Austrian FA Cup, and the crowd of 1,017 will dine out on it for years.
Sportclub Team Wiener Linien Elektra beat Wolfsberger Athletiksport Club 2-1 in the Austrian FA Cup on 21 July, and nobody who was there will let the result go quietly. A small club, a modest gate, a top-flight opponent with two major titles behind it: on paper it was a mismatch. On the night it was simply a cup tie, decided by the side that wanted it more.
The 1,017 who came made the noise of a far larger crowd, and the players answered them. Wolfsberger, respected at continental level, leave with nothing but the memory of a long evening. Elektra's reward is a place in the next round and a story the club's kit man will be telling long after the draw is forgotten.
